Advanced Reading Bundle

1. House Labeling and Story Telling: 

• Page 2: 18”x24” large format print

• Page 3-6: 8.5”x11” quadrant prints: lower left, lower right, upper left, upper right: print, trim the edges and tape together to make a large print.

• Page 7: Furniture (two sets to a page). For cutting and pasting into the house. Encourage children to think of and draw their own decorations as well. 

• Pages 8-12: Word to build sentences with. There is a blank page for children to write their own words as well. Print these on normal paper for cutting and pasting or print on 110lb cardstock, laminate and cut if they are for reusable on-the-shelf work. 

• Page 13: Recording paper for house story telling. 

2. Reading and Counting Words in Sentences:

• Pages 14 and 15: Print, laminate and cut. Advanced readers can read sentences to themselves, place markers on the 10 frame and count the words in the sentence. Encourage children to read these to younger students and begin phonological awareness drills by counting the words they hear.

3. Four Letter Word Go Fish:

• Pages 16-18: These words correspond with the Orange Waseca Tower but you do not need to be using this program to enjoy this game! This game is for 2-4 players. Print the word cards 2-4 times for the amount of players you will allow. Print the fish logos on the back of the cards according to your printer's printing direction. I play by giving each student 5 cards to begin.

4. Five Letter Word Go Fish:

• Pages 19-21: These words correspond with the Yellow Waseca Tower but you do not need to be using this program to enjoy this game! This game is for 2-4 players. Print the word cards 2-4 times for the amount of players you will allow. Print the fish logos on the back of the cards according to your printer's printing direction. I play by giving each student 5 cards to begin.

5. H Brother Flip Book:

• Pages 22 and 23: Print these two times on 110lb cardstock, laminate and cut. Punch one hole in the top of each card. Stack the H Brother cards (ch, sh, wh ph, th) and connect with a 1” metal book ring. Use Command Strips to connect the very last card in the stack to a piece of cardboard or the back of an old wooden tray. Repeat with the word ending cards. Flip through each stack randomly and have your student blend and read the words together. 

6. Vowel Pair Word Building:

• Pages 24-38: Print on 110lb cardstock, laminate and cut. Sets are oa words, ai words, ee words, oo words and ea words. Each set is color coded lightest to darkest. Where the lightest cards signify the first part of the word, the medium is the vowel pair and the darkest is the ending. The control of error is that each set makes 6 real words (not nonsense) so if a child gets a nonsense word they will have to rearrange to find the correct word. 

7. Fill In The Blank Sentences:

• Pages 39-42: Print, laminate and cut. Mount the “word bank” on wooden tiles or cardboard for a more substantial weight. Student reads the sentences and chooses a word from the word bank and fills in the blank. Record sentences on recording strips.
